Primary coverage

Primary coverage pays your claim first — potentially meaning faster payment to you. It’s included on our Ultimate, Advantage, Travel Med Go, Flight Insure, and Flight Insure Plus plans. Our Essential plan provides excess medical coverage unless you’re a Connecticut resident, in which case you’d have primary coverage.

Kids-included pricing

Our Ultimate plan can provide coverage at no additional cost to one travel companion aged 17 years old or younger per each insured adult traveler. Each insured adult traveler on the Ultimate plan must be aged 18 years or older for the child to be eligible, and the child’s individual trip cost must be equal to or lower than the insured adult’s individual trip cost. If upgrades are selected and included in the policy, each traveler will be charged the applicable premium for the upgrade.

Pre-existing medical conditions

If you buy our Ultimate plan within 21 days of your first trip payment, insure your full trip cost, and are medically fit to travel at the time of purchase, you may be eligible for the pre-existing medical condition exclusion waiver. Exclusions don’t apply to New Hampshire residents.

Optional upgrades

Depending on the plan you choose, you can include up to nine optional upgrades in your policy:

  • Cancel for any reason
  • Rental car damage
  • Additional medical
  • Adventure activities
  • Accidental death for air travel
  • Pet care
  • Rental property security deposit
  • Cancel for business reasons
  • Additional baggage

24/7 travel assistance

All our plans include access to travel and emergency assistance anytime from anywhere.

21-day review period

If you’re not completely satisfied within 21 days of purchasing your plan, we'll refund your premium cost if you haven’t departed on your trip or filed a claim.

Frequently asked questions

Does travel insurance cover COVID-19 (coronavirus)?

If you first tested positive for COVID-19 while your coverage was in effect and have been diagnosed by a physician to be unfit for travel, you’d be eligible for trip cancellation and interruption coverage. In addition, other benefits may also apply if you test positive during your trip.

What if I have to work and can’t go on my trip?

If you’re transferred or laid off and meet policy requirements, having travel insurance coverage allows you to cancel your trip and be reimbursed for unused, non-refundable trip expenses. Plus, our cancel for business reasons upgrade can give you extra work-related cancellation flexibility. Learn more about our business travel insurance here.

I have health insurance; do I need medical coverage?

No one expects to have a medical emergency while traveling. But if you do, most health insurance plans don’t cover you outside of the U.S. — and you may have out of network expenses in certain U.S. states. Having emergency medical expense and emergency evacuation and repatriation of remains coverage helps ensure you receive quality care. And you won’t be dealing with your emergency alone — our travel assistance provider is available 24/7 to help you with advanced medical payments, finding suitable medical facilities, and more.

I have a snorkeling excursion planned. Am I covered if something goes wrong?

Yes, snorkeling is eligible for coverage on our base plans. For more thrilling activities, our adventure activities upgrade can provide coverage for activities your base plan doesn’t cover. Learn more about our adventure travel insurance here.

If your trip is delayed for 5 consecutive hours or more because of severe weather conditions, our travel delay coverage allows you to be reimbursed for meals and lodging. Learn more about our travel delay coverage here.
