Is flight insurance worth it?

All travel insurance is designed to help protect you from the unexpected — and this includes flight coverage plans. Although it’s likely you’ll have an uneventful takeoff and a smooth touchdown when your start your vacation and return home, something unexpected can affect your flight at any time. This is why it’s smart to be prepared and travel with flight protection.

What does flight insurance cover?

No two flight insurance plans are alike, so it’s important to check the coverage and decide whether the benefits and their limits are right for your trip.

At Travelex, we have two plans with varying benefits for you to choose from:

  1. Flight Insure, which provides flight-only coverage
  2. Flight Insure Plus, which provides flight, medical, and baggage coverage

FAQs about our flight insurance plans

What’s accidental death travel insurance?

Both of our flight insurance plans include the accidental death coverage for air travel. So, if you lose your life because of an eligible injury during your flight, we can reimburse you. The amount we can give you will depend on the limit you selected when buying your policy: $300,000, $500,000, or $1,000,000.

Do you have travel insurance for missed connection?

If you miss your connecting flight for an eligible reason, our Flight Insure Plus plan can reimburse you up to $50 for:

  • Additional lodging arrangements
  • Meal expenses
  • Payments for unused travel arrangements

For coverage to apply, your missed connection must be a result of a:

  • Documented traffic accident en route to your destination
  • Flight cancellation because of a mechanical breakdown or adverse weather conditions
  • Flight delay of three hours or more because of a mechanical breakdown or adverse weather conditions

What don’t Flight Insure and Flight Insure Plus cover?

We tailor our flight insurance plans to help protect your in-air trip. So, these plans don’t cover trip cancellation or other events that happen before you depart.

Want comprehensive coverage that includes trip cancellation? Check out our Essential, Advantage, and Ultimate plans.

Also, don’t forget travel insurance is created to protect you from the unexpected. This means the situation you’re claiming for must have happened after you bought your policy and be covered by your policy. For example, our flight plans don’t include coverage for pre-existing medical conditions, so any claims related to your medical conditions won’t be covered.

Want protection for your pre-existing medical conditions? Our Ultimate plan can offer this benefit. Just be sure to purchase the plan within 21 days of your first trip expense and insure your entire trip cost.

To understand exactly what our flight plans do and don’t cover, read the policy wording documents. You can view them online when you get a quote, and we’ll send them to you with your confirmation of coverage email after you purchase.
