We do have a rental car damage upgrade that provides coverage for damage to rental cars. However, we don’t offer auto insurance to travel to Mexico, because our rental car damage upgrade doesn’t apply in Mexico.

That doesn’t mean we can’t provide coverage for the rest of your trip, though. Compare our plans now to see if our other travel insurance benefits and upgrades suit your trip.

With the U.S. and Mexico sharing a border, you may want to drive to Mexico rather than fly. However, travel insurance typically doesn’t cover personal vehicles when driving to Mexico.

If you’re taking your own vehicle on vacation, you may consider looking into separate car insurance to travel to Mexico that’s specifically designed for international travel. You may also be able to extend your existing auto insurance coverage to include travel to Mexico. Reach out to your auto insurance provider to ask about coverage options and requirements for driving in Mexico before you depart.

Good news: Our base plans include coverage for certain activities like kayaking, river rafting, snorkeling, horseback riding, hiking, and more.

If you think you’ll want to try adventures other than what our base plans provide coverage for — such as zip-lining, scuba diving deeper than 75 feet, and skydiving — look into our adventure activities upgrade. You can add it to our Ultimate, Advantage, Essential, and Travel Med Go plans.

Our Ultimate, Advantage, and Essential plans do provide different levels of trip cancellation coverage for certain eligible reasons only.

However, if you include our cancel for any reason upgrade* with our Ultimate plan, you can cancel for any reason —whatever it may be — up to two days prior to your scheduled departure date. This helps ensure you’re not left paying for your entire canceled Mexico trip, as we can reimburse you with 75% of your insured trip costs (up to $7,500).

Important: This upgrade only applies if you insure all your nonrefundable trip costs (up to a maximum of $10,000) with your policy at the time of purchase and add any additional travel arrangements within 14 days of booking them. You must also buy the upgrade with our Ultimate plan within 21 days of your initial payment made for your trip and 31 days or more before your departure date.

Yes, you’ll still have coverage for all of your trip, as long as you’re not traveling to a blocked destination that we can’t insure.

If you plan to visit multiple states or countries on your next trip, you should list your destination as the location where you’ll be spending the most time. For instance, if you plan to visit Mexico for two weeks and Belize for three days, you should list Mexico as your destination.
