Can you book travel insurance last minute?

When it comes to trip protection, you can usually protect your trip as soon as you’ve booked any part of your trip (like a hotel or flight) to benefit from cancellation coverage. Or you can buy it up to the day of departure as long as you have not left home and make the most of on-trip coverage instead.

Our Travel Med Go plan covers you after you leave home and during your vacation. So, it’s a great last-minute travel insurance option when you don’t need pre-trip cancellation coverage but still want quality coverage while you’re on your trip.

You can buy our Travel Med Go plan any time before you depart home. Once you’re traveling, it can help protect against unexpected costs that come with certain travel issues.

What does last-minute travel insurance cover?

Every travel insurance plan is unique, so it’s important to look at the coverage and make sure you’re getting what you need for your trip. If you’re buying travel insurance last minute, it’s likely you won’t need any pre-trip cancellation coverage. Instead, you’ll want to make sure you have the right on-trip coverage for your destination and whatever activities you’re planning.

Plus, you’ll have primary coverage for medical care and up to $10,000 accidental death and dismemberment coverage.

But our Travel Med Go plan provides more than medical-only travel insurance — it includes protection for travel delay, missed connection, lost or delayed luggage, and more. This means even if you don’t buy it until the day before you leave, you can head off on vacation knowing you have coverage for all the important things, plus our 24/7 assistance if you need us.

FAQs about Travel Med Go, our last-minute travel insurance plan

When can I purchase the Travel Med Go plan?

You can purchase our go-to last-minute travel insurance plan any time before your trip starts — including on your day of travel before departure.

Interested in our Travel Med Go plan but not buying last minute? You’re welcome to buy it any time after you’ve booked any element of your trip, whether it’s two weeks or two months ahead of your departure. This plan isn’t only for people buying close to their trip date; it’s for any traveler who wants on-trip coverage without having to pay for pre-trip cancellation coverage.

Do you offer medical-only travel insurance?

Our Travel Med Go plan is a great choice if you’re looking for a travel medical insurance plan. But you never know what unexpected travel obstacles could impact your vacation, so it’s important to consider buying more than medical-only travel insurance.

With our Travel Med Go plan, you’ll have the medical coverage you’re looking for, plus other helpful basic travel insurance benefits for on-trip issues like interruptions, delays, and lost baggage.

What doesn’t Travel Med Go cover?

Our travelers love this plan as a last-minute travel insurance option because of its medical coverage and basic on-trip benefits. Travel Med Go doesn’t cover trip cancellation or any issues that happen before your trip starts. So, if you want that level of coverage, check out our comprehensive plans: Essential, Advantage, and Ultimate.

Travel insurance is designed to protect you from the unexpected, which means we can’t provide coverage for any issues you anticipate happening when you buy your policy. We also have certain coverage conditions and exclusions for our Travel Med Go plan, which are listed in the description of coverage. For example, this plan doesn’t include coverage for your pre-existing medical conditions.

Want coverage for your pre-existing medical conditions? Our comprehensive Ultimate plan can include coverage if you buy the plan within 21 days of your first trip payment, are medically able to travel at the time of purchase, and insure your total (pre-paid non-refundable) trip cost.

To learn more about what our Travel Med Go plan does and doesn’t cover, please read the description of coverage. You find this online when you get a quote, or if you’ve bought this plan, check your inbox for your Confirmation of Coverage email — it has all the details.
