If you’re traveling for up to 90 days, travel insurance for Greece vacations isn’t mandatory according to the Greek government (but it’s a good idea — especially with 24/7 travel assistance included!) What’s a Schengen visa and why do you need it for longer trips? Greece is part of Europe’s Schengen Zone, which allows visa-free travel for Americans staying for up to 90 days. If you’re planning to vacation within the Schengen Zone for more than 90 days, you’ll need to apply for a Schengen visa before you leave home.

To be eligible for a Schengen visa, you must have travel medical insurance for Greece with at least €30,000 (it’s around the same amount in U.S. dollars) coverage for emergency medical expenses and evacuation. Your travel medical insurance also must be valid in all Schengen countries — not just Greece, even if that’s the only country you’re going to.
