If you're scheduled to cruise through the Philippines, it's a good idea to consider getting travel insurance. If something unplanned happens like your cruise is canceled, you hurt yourself on the ship, or your bags are stolen, having travel insurance for the Philippines can help you get back money spent on pre-paid non-refundable travel expenses, emergency medical expenses, emergency evacuation, lost personal items, and more.

If you're thinking about driving a rental car when you're in the Philippines, travel insurance can give you extra financial support if you have an accident that damages the car. This can include events like crashes, vandalism, theft, or even weather-related damage like fires or floods.

At Travelex, you can add car rental collision coverage to the Travel Select and Travel Basic plans as an optional upgrade. Be sure to check that you have the right license or permit to drive in the Philippines before traveling, though.

Important: Travelex may offer protection for damage to rental cars, but it does not offer coverage for motorcycles and mopeds. This means if you're driving — or even just riding — on a motorcycle or moped (this includes taxis), you won't have any coverage if something goes wrong.

However, more adventurous activities — like zip lining and scuba diving at a depth greater than 60 feet—are not covered by the base plans.

You may be excited about your trip to the Philippines, so it can be disappointing to not only have to cancel, but also potentially lose your entire trip investment.

Even if you don’t think you’ll need to cancel your trip, life can be full of surprises, and it’s worth considering adding the cancel for any reason upgrade to your Travelex protection plan.

This upgrade can be included in the Travel Select plan, and it allows you to call off your trip for any reason at all, provided you do so at least 48 hours before you're due to depart. This means you may not lose all of your trip investment, as Travelex can reimburse you up to 75% of the cost of your insured trip, up to a maximum of $7,500.

If you want to make a claim on the cancel for any reason upgrade, the following must apply:

• When you first purchase your travel insurance policy, you are purchasing it within 15 days of your first trip cost, it insures all pre-paid non-refundable vacation payments, and it includes the cancel for any reason upgrade.  
• Your full trip cost equals or is less than $10,000.  
• Your trip is no longer than 30 days.  

When you're generating a travel insurance quote, the designated trip location should be the one you’ll stay in the longest.

For example, if you're going on vacation and spending four days in the Philippines and two days in Indonesia, you should say the Philippines is your destination when getting the quote.

You'll still be covered for your whole trip - unless you're going to a sanctioned country that isn’t eligible for coverage with Travelex – so you can travel to Asia knowing your trip is protected.

Many credit cards come with travel insurance, but these plans might not give you enough coverage and often have specific rules you’re required to comply with to activate the coverage.

Getting travel insurance from a company that specializes in it can give you better coverage for important things — like the potential inclusion of coverage for pre-existing health problems — so you can feel more supported during your trip to the Philippines.
